Description

Certification is the process used by Alberta Human Services to review educational training and competencies to determine eligibility and issue certification towards one of the three levels of certification in accordance with the Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulation. Staff working in licensed child care programs have six months to be certified, but cannot be left alone to supervise children without certification.

Accreditation is a voluntary process that objectively assesses whether child care programs meet child care standards of excellence. The Government of Alberta recognizes licensed out-of-school care programs that have achieved the accreditation standards of excellence by providing staff funding at enhanced rates. This guide explains the accreditation process, the types funding available for accredited child care programs or those programs working through the accreditation process, and how to apply for funding.
