This guidance builds upon the Alberta Health Services Health and Safety Childcare Guidelines, which all child care operators are required to follow. All re-opened licensed child care centres will also be required to be in compliance with applicable zoning and health and safety legislation, including the Child Care Licensing Act and Child Care Licensing Regulation. In the event of a conflict between this document and the AHS Health and Safety Childcare Guidelines, this document will prevail. Also available in French, see related tab.

In preparation for a full legislative review of the Child Care Licensing Act and Regulation, the Ministry of Children's Services held public consultations with various stakeholders, including parents and caregivers, child care educators, operators and stakeholder organizations, and licensing staff. The consultations took place between June 15 to July 15, 2020 and included virtual engagement sessions and online surveys. This report presents a summary of the results from the child care consultation process.

The Government of Alberta has provided operational grant funding to early learning and child care centres to support access to, and affordability of, quality child care spaces in Alberta. This report by R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. presents the findings of the Year 1 (2017/2018) and Year 2 (2018/2019) evaluations of the initiative. Also included in this record is a summary report from Children's Services which highlights some of the evaluation's key findings and briefly outlines the Alberta government's next steps for initiatives and investments in child care.
