This resource was created to assist EPEA-approved industrial operations with meeting the annual emissions inventory reporting requirements set out in the Alberta Air Monitoring Directive. Although mainly a guidance document, the AEIR Standard is also a reporting standard and does have some mandatory requirements that are required to be met or followed.

The purpose of this resource is to assist approved industrial operations in meeting the annual emissions inventory reporting requirements as set out in the Alberta Air Monitoring Directive. The report examines the data collected in submitted annual emissions inventory reports from approved industrial facilities in Alberta. The report also includes summary results from Environment and Parks’ analysis of additional air emission sources not covered by the program.

This report is the final deliverable of an air quality modelling contract. The study built upon previous modelling studies focused on central Alberta and expanded the scope to include all regions of Alberta. Other improvements in this study included modelling a complete calendar year, emissions inventory updates for key sectors, and sector-based source apportionment for seven distinct sectors. Province-wide source apportionment will help inform air quality management initiatives, such as managing against the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards and other provincial air quality frameworks.
