This plan provides background information on the species and outlines a set of objectives and management actions to help meet the goal of maintaining current distribution and breeding populations of the butterfly in Alberta. This wildlife status report looks at the Weidemeyer's admiral, a butterfly whose distribution within Canada is limited to two groups of known populations along the lower Milk River in southern Alberta. The total known population in Alberta is estimated to be a maximum of 3000 adults. It is included on the list of species that may be at risk in Alberta. This report is part of the Alberta Wildlife Status Report series, which provides comprehensive summaries of selected wildlife species intended to be useful to those managing populations of species and their habitats, and to help identify species that may be formally designated as endangered or threatened.
