Description
The objectives of this survey were to assess the status of the moose population in Wildlife Management Unit 356 since the previous 2002 survey, and determine a population estimate, population split for sex and age classes, and a density estimate. The survey was conducted using distance sampling methods. Aerial surveys are the primary method used to assess the population size, distribution, population trends and herd composition of ungulates in Alberta. This information supports the effective management and conservation of ungulates, and is used to set hunting licence allocations, identify areas with agricultural depredation problems, and determine priority areas for recovery actions.
