Description
Presents the results of an aerial ungulate survey conducted in WMU 544 from Feb. 10 to 12, 2018, using the distance sampling method. The objective of this distance survey was to estimate total population sizes, population densities, and age-sex composition ratios of moose in WMU 544 to inform game management decisions. Aerial surveys are the primary method used to assess the population size, distribution, population trends and herd composition of ungulates in Alberta. This information supports the effective management and conservation of ungulates, and is used to set hunting licence allocations, identify areas with agricultural depredation problems, and determine priority areas for recovery actions.
