The facility planning guidelines provide assistance to successful proponents in establishing their facility and space requirements. It provides an overview of the range of potential spaces that may be included in a family care clinic (FCC). The design and layout of each FCC will depend on several factors including the size of the proposed FCC, clinical and community requirements, service volumes, and limitations of existing infrastructure.

Description

Strathcona County’s Social Sustainability Framework identified the need for a seniors plan to prepare for shifting demographics. In response, the County developed the Older Adults Plan, approved by Council on June 30, 2009. The plan uses the community’s strength as a base for building an age-friendly and caring community that values and supports its older residents. The plan promotes aging well, with independence, by providing the right programs, services and supports to meet the needs of older adults. On June 6, 2013, Strathcona County was the first community to receive the Age-Friendly Alberta Recognition Award.

The purpose of this resource is to assist Family Care Clinic (FCC) applicants in further refining their proposed accommodation requirements which will be based on the programs and services available at their FCC. The accommodation requirements will contribute to identification of a project scope of work and project cost estimates (lease and leasehold improvement) associated with developing an FCC facility. This information will be used to complete the Facilities and Equipment Infrastructure section within the Business Plan template that is required to support the implementation of a recommended proposal.
