As part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to be open and accountable to the public, all ministries are required to prepare and make public three-year ministry business plans. The ministry business plan encompasses the department and all consolidated entities, and aligns with the strategic direction of the Government of Alberta. Each business plan includes a description of the ministry, desired outcomes, priority initiatives, and performance measures and indicators. Current and forecast budgeting information for the planning period is also included.

This guidebook is not an exhaustive source of all related references. While referencing other documents, it does not quote all pertinent legislation, nor does it include a complete set of policy documents, for example the publication Framework for a Health Alberta. This guidebook is an evolving document, subject to revisions and updates to reflect progress made int he health system as well as the experience of the accountability relationships.

On April 16, 2008 Alberta Health and Wellness launched a Health Action Plan to improve accessibility to health care and ensure the future sustainability of the health system. The Children’s Mental Health Plan for Alberta: Three Year Action Plan (2008-2011) supports the Health Action Plan by providing direction and funding over the next three years for strategies to improve access to mental health services for infants, children, youth and their families. The Children’s Mental Health Plan also aligns with the Health Action Plan by addressing the needs of children and youth at risk, which contributes to healthy and safe communities.

The 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care is an agreement developed in 2004 between all provinces, territories and the federal government to ensure that Canadians have access to essential health care services when they need it. While the agreement is focused on five key areas of access (cancer, heart, diagnostic imaging, joint replacement and sight restoration), it also covers strategic investments in a number of areas that support improved access to health services, such as home care, prescription drugs, health promotion and disease prevention, primary health care, and health professions. This report shows the progress Alberta has made in implementing key strategies to date.

This document is established pursuant to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Benefits Regulation. The provisions within this schedule are subject to, and should be read together with, the relevant provisions of the Alberta Health Care Insurance Act and regulations, including the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Benefits Regulation, the Claims for Benefits Regulation and the Alberta Health Care Insurance Regulation. If there is an inconsistency or conflict between the provisions of this Schedule and the provisions of the Alberta Health Care Insurance Act and regulations, the latter prevails. Rates for anesthetic services listed in the schedule are claimable by physicians and are not claimable by oral and maxillofacial surgeons or dentists.
