Description

The Mass Fatality Plan provides guidance to Alberta's municipalities in the development of their emergency management plans, and will act as an operational framework to inform first responder, municipal, and provincial activity during a mass fatality incident. It also describes the method by which the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will work with municipal government, law enforcement, provincial government departments, the funeral services industry, the healthcare sector, and other stakeholders in the event of a mass fatality incident in Alberta.

Description

Alberta Health engaged Ernst & Young to perform a review of Alberta's response to COVID-19 and to facilitate the development of recommended priority actions that the health system should consider in order to build longer-term capacity and resilience. This report sets out specific actions to be considered by Alberta's health system and aggregated into an agreed-upon delivery plan by Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services. The review and action plan are structured around six themes: workforce; acute, critical care and surgery; primary and community care; governance and decision-making; public health; and modelling.

A review of Alberta’s emergency medical services dispatch system was conducted to identify opportunities to improve the system and provide recommendations on strategies to implement changes with the goal of improving patient outcomes. The review included a comparison of the Alberta Health Services dispatch model with nine comparable systems from other provinces and other countries, as well as internal and external stakeholder engagement. Alberta’s government will be accepting all recommendations and is working on a plan of action to carry them out.

As part of the Government of Alberta’s ongoing commitment to implementing the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Government is planning to implement Indigenous introductory training for all Alberta Public Service employees, and Alberta agencies, boards, and commissions. The intent is to raise awareness of the historical and contemporary experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Alberta. Employees were engaged to provide feedback on the development of this training. This report summarizes the results of this feedback and will be used to inform the development of a training proposal.

The North Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council was appointed by Cabinet to provide strategic advice in the development of the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan. In its advice submitted to the government in December 2014, the council provided 69 recommendations in six topic areas: managing wetlands and lakes as part of watershed management; supporting biodiversity in the region; inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in land-use planning; community growth and community land-use planning; management of outdoor recreation; and economic development.
