The Alberta government collaborated with 13 resource companies to identify access corridors for the Kakwa Copton area, located in west central Alberta. The plan establishes a proposed network of permanent road corridors for the area and was developed under an Integrated Land Management approach where, through the collaborative efforts of the developers, the overall industrial footprint is lessened.

The Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) is a standardized digital forest inventory product that is used to spatially identify the type, extent and condition of forest vegetation. The AVI is also a detailed, spatially-explicit standard to assist in the decision-making process for forest management planning, wildfire management, wildlife habitat classification, ecological classification and integrated resource management activities. The establishment of AVI standards helps ensure data quality, consistency, and compatibility with Government of Alberta forest inventory database architecture, as the responsibility to acquire AVI data is shared between forest management agreement holders and the Province.

Description

This research was initiated by the Department of Energy, Government of Alberta and Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions in order to understand the energy, emissions and water flow patterns in the Province of Alberta through the development of Sankey diagrams. Sankey diagrams are a specific type of diagram in which the width of the arrows is proportional to the quantity of flow. A key objective of this research is developing an Alberta-specific energy forecasting and planning model for studying different greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios for the energy demand and supply sectors of the Province of Alberta.
