Description

This report was prepared under the direction of President and Chief Executive Officer, Alberta Health Services (AHS), in accordance with the recommendations in the February 2020 AHS Performance Review conducted by Ernst & Young, as well as from direction by the Minister of Health. The plan includes a multi-year plan for the implementation of initiatives across five themes: people, clinical, clinical support, non-clinical and governance.

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the impact on Alberta's health care system and its response to the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus (pH1N1). With the first and second wave of pH1N1 complete, it is possible to do a quick assessment of the magnitude of the threat it represented to Albertans and the success of the health care system response. By combining surveillance data with the expertise from both Alberta Health and Wellness and Alberta Health Services, the report takes a comprehensive view of the two pandemic waves and provides contextual information to guide a public health response if a third pandemic wave materializes.

Description

In 2010, a set of standard geographies were developed for surveillance, planning, monitoring, and reporting of population health, health outcomes, and health support and services across Alberta. This document describes the principles, guidelines, criteria, and methodologies used to construct the geographic areas. It also describes the updating of and changes to these geographic areas based on new census boundaries and population data that resulted from the 2016 Census of Canada. Appendices contain maps of the updated standard geographic areas as of 2018.
