The North Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council was appointed by Cabinet to provide strategic advice in the development of the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan. In its advice submitted to the government in December 2014, the council provided 69 recommendations in six topic areas: managing wetlands and lakes as part of watershed management; supporting biodiversity in the region; inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in land-use planning; community growth and community land-use planning; management of outdoor recreation; and economic development.

Hunting and fishing are an important part of Alberta's social, cultural and economic heritage. Continued participation in these activities help sustain respect and appreciation for Alberta's natural habitats. Hunters and anglers provide important input and support to fish and wildlife management activities. Hunting and fishing contribute to the economy. The Hunting for Tomorrow Foundation's report, “The Economic Benefits of Hunting and Fishing Activities in Alberta in 2008”, estimated that $800 million was spent by hunters, anglers and related conservation organizations in 2008. This infographic explains the process followed for becoming a community timber program member and for applying for a community timber permit. Like commercial timber permits, the community timber permit sets terms and conditions that must be met before harvest operations can begin. Community timber permit programs allow the timber volume sold to remain focused on generating economic benefits among the local members of the Coniferous Community Timber Permit Program. For an individual to become a Community Timber Permit Program Member there must be an available vacancy that the Forestry department has justification to fill. The program vacancy will only be filled if there is available timber volume within the permit program. While this membership provides access to potential community timber permits, there are no tenure rights associated with community timber permit program membership.
