This Alberta Official Statistic describes how Alberta Environment and Parks tracks participation and encourages hunting and fishing because these activities promote responsible stewardship of Alberta's natural resources and provide economic, environmental and social benefits for Albertans. Hunting and fishing are an important part of Alberta's social, cultural and economic heritage. Continued participation in these activities help sustain respect and appreciation for Alberta's natural habitats. Hunters and anglers provide important input and support to fish and wildlife management activities. Hunting and fishing contribute to the economy. The Hunting for Tomorrow Foundation's report, “The Economic Benefits of Hunting and Fishing Activities in Alberta in 2008”, estimated that $800 million was spent by hunters, anglers and related conservation organizations in 2008. Description

As part of the government's response to the June 2013 flooding in Southern Alberta, the Southern Alberta Fisheries Habitat Enhancement and Sustainability (FISHES) Program was established with the aim of mitigating the flood-related effects on fish and fish habitat in the short term and to re-establish a healthy aquatic environment over the longer term. In the absence of an existing process, a number of new tools were developed by the FISHES Program to support effective decision making and the allocation of program funds. The Project Selection and Priority Ranking Tool was developed to help evaluate potential projects based on thirteen biological, social and economic criteria which are weighted to reflect both provincial fisheries management priorities and local fisheries issues and concerns.

In the plan, each issue is given context, management objectives are identified and corresponding strategies are provided. The management plan is designed to provide a long term and comprehensive framework to guide both park operations and park developments. It has been produced in consultation with Albertans, stakeholders and First Nations, and is intended to help achieve sustainable protection of the valuable natural and cultural resources, and to provide the foundation for long-term economic benefits to the people of Alberta.

This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. Alberta Land Inventory (ALI) and Canada Land Inventory (CLI) Landform consists of a single polygon feature class with associated attributes. These attributes describe the landform polygons in terms of parent geologic material, surface form, generalized texture, and slope. The attribution includes the original ALI/CLI coding as well as the equivalent Physical Land Classification (PLC) codes. CLI and ALI landform polygons were photo interpreted in the 1960's and 70's. The linework was transferred to mylar overlay and 319 maps were published at a scale of 1:63360, using the National Topographic Series (NTS) maps as a base. The structure of the map symbols is slightly different for the two series. There is additional free-form text on the CLI landform maps to describe the direction...

Forest company forest management plans (FMPs) detail when, where and how timber on Alberta Crown land will be managed in order to balance social, economic and environmental needs based on input from the public, Indigenous peoples and interest groups. The forest management planning area under consideration is FMA 0600043, allocated to Tolko Industries Ltd., Vanderwell Contractors (1971) Ltd., and West Fraser Mills Ltd. via legislative Order-in-Council (O.C. 550/2005) dated November 30, 2005. The FMP encompasses Forest Management Unit S17, which is located within the Upper Athabasca and Lower Peace Land-use Framework planning regions in central Alberta; it falls within the Central Mixedwood and Lower Foothills Natural Subregions.

Environmental Impact Assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed Suncor Energy Inc. Lewis project. The proposal is for in situ extraction with an estimated total bitumen production of 160,000 bpd and an operational life of up to 40 years. The project would be developed in four phases, supported by cogeneration of electricity to be constructed within the first two phases. Project components include gas fired steam generation including some cogeneration, water treatment and recycling, bitumen treatment, multi-well production pads, steam delivery pipelines, product recovery pipelines, local access roads, and borrow pits.
