Application and supporting documentation from the Fort McKay First Nation and Fort McKay Métis Community Association requesting a review of the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan. One of six requests for reviews of the plan, which came into force in September 2012. As per the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, a person who is directly and adversely affected by a regional plan or an amendment to a regional plan may, within 12 months from the date the regional plan or amendment affecting the person comes into force, request a review of the regional plan or amendment.

Description

The Gas Re-Injection and Production Experiment (GRIPE) pilot project was originally proposed by Paramount Resources Ltd in 2004 as a possible technical solution to recover shut-in gas reserves in the Surmont Gas-over-Bitumen area. The concept of GRIPE is to test a method to produce shut-in gas pools by injecting exhaust gases and producing remaining gas while maintaining reservoir pressure.

The location is approximately 95 kilometers northwest of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The EIA was deemed complete in 2012. Reports on a CO2 enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) pilot at the Judy Creek Beaverhill Lake “A” Pool, a middle Devonian age carbonate reservoir. Overall pilot performance indicates encouraging results for incremental recovery of oil, hydrocarbon solvent and CO2 breakthrough. CO2 reproduction has been cyclic, lagging CO2 injection, and peak reproduction periods which were somewhat predictable resulted in some operational downtime.
