Unlike families, households may be comprised of individuals who are not related either through blood, marriage or children as in the case of either an economic family (related by blood, married/common law or adoption) or census families (married/common law with or without children and lone parents). For instance, a household may be comprised of two individuals, not related, who share a common dwelling. The Survey of Household Spending is carried out annually across Canada in the ten provinces. Data for the territories are available for 1998, 1999 and every second year thereafter.
