The Alberta Government monitors compliance of forestry-related legislation, regulations and policy directives. Government is required to report all contraventions and non-compliance by disclosing the name of the person or company who has broken the law or specific conditions, the municipality in which the person resides or the company is located, a description of the contravention, and the amount of the penalty.

This directive outlines the process by which the public will be informed of Forests Act penalties, in support of an open and transparent regulatory system. Providing this information will increase public confidence in the enforcement of existing legislation and will improve compliance with the Forests Act and its associated regulations.

Alberta Environment and Parks uses a balance of education, prevention and enforcement to ensure compliance with Alberta's environmental and natural resources legislation. Where non-compliance is identified either through mandatory reporting or a compliance inspection, all of the circumstances of the alleged contravention are evaluated to determine if the responsible party was duly diligent in their effort.
