This directive sets out minimum standards for seismic operations within the Little Smoky and A La Peche Caribou Ranges until a caribou range plan is finalized. The standards outlined are to be applied as conditions for issuance of dispositions by the regulatory body, the Alberta Energy Regulator or the Department for any seismic activities occurring within the designated areas.

This directive adjusts land use application and approval processes under the authority of the Public Lands Act, Water Act and Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, in response to the federal Emergency Order for the Protection of the Greater Sage-Grouse. The emergency order addresses imminent threats to specified habitat in order to stabilize the sage-grouse population.
