This archaeology paper describes work at a stratified site in Jasper National Park, Alberta. Aeolian silts covering the terrace at this site (243R) contained evidence of five cultural components. Radiocarbon dates and recovered projectile points suggest that occupations occurred during the Early, Middle, and Late Precontact Periods. The preliminary results from site 243R excavations provide the basis for a much-needed occupational sequence for Jasper National Park.

Presents a collection of archaeological studies seeking to understand the characteristics of the prehistory of the mountains and foothills that form the Eastern Slopes along the Rocky Mountains. The papers are organized in a geographical cline from south to north, with those having a more region-wide perspective being retained for the latter portions of the volume. Although considerably greater numbers of studies have been conducted in the southern half of the region, this volume contains a roughly equal number of papers based on data generated north of the Bow River valley. In some cases, these constitute the first published record of that work.
