Description

Six requests for review of the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan were submitted following the implementation of the plan in September 2012. A review panel was appointed in June 2014 to consider the six review requests and to provide recommendations to the Government of Alberta. As part of their work, the panel could request further information to permit a full and satisfactory understanding of the matters in the review. This record contains the panel's fourteenth request for information, directed to all First Nations. It also includes the response received to the information request from the First Nations as well as replies to the responses from the Government of Alberta.

Six requests for review of the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan were submitted following the implementation of the plan in September 2012. A review panel was appointed in June 2014 to consider the six review requests and to provide recommendations to the Government of Alberta. As part of their work, the panel could request further information to permit a full and satisfactory understanding of the matters in the review. This record contains the panel's first request for information, directed to the Government of Alberta. It also includes the response received to the information request, and several replies to the government response that were received from other parties involved in the review request under consideration.

Application and supporting documentation from the Fort McKay First Nation and Fort McKay Métis Community Association requesting a review of the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan. One of six requests for reviews of the plan, which came into force in September 2012. As per the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, a person who is directly and adversely affected by a regional plan or an amendment to a regional plan may, within 12 months from the date the regional plan or amendment affecting the person comes into force, request a review of the regional plan or amendment.

This soil survey report for the Municipal District of Cardston begins with a general description of the survey area. Part 2 contains the descriptions of the principal soils and their respective soil map units. In Part 3, the rationale and actual ratings of the map units for dryland agricuhure, grazing productivity and irrigation capability are explained and displayed. Part 4 describes the areal extent of erosion and salinity within the M.D. and and discusses the impacts of erosion, factors influencing soil degradation and possible management techniques. Appendices include: a brief explanatory section on soil formation and classification for the uninitiated user; analytical procedures employed for determining the physical and chemical properties of the soil series; the areas of the individual soil map units; a glossary of terms used in the report and a key to the soil series used on the soil maps.

The report is presented in five parts. Part I outlines the location of the study area and provides a general description of its physical environment. Part II is a summary of the concepts of soil formation, classification and mapping that were used in this survey. Part III contains detailed descriptions of the soil symbols found on the maps. In Part IV, the soil units described in Part III are interpreted for various potential land uses. Part V consists of five appendixes that contain tables of data and other technical information. Four soil maps supplement the report.

This soil survey contains descriptions of the soils of the Brazeau Dam area, stressing the fact that soils, as part of the landscape, are one component of the environment. A brief treatment of the geology, history, climate, and vegetation of the area is presented as background information to a general understanding of the landscape. The complete report consists of the written text and the soil map. Soil units are identified on the map, described briefly in the legend, and treated at greater length in the text. The map units are discussed in terms of the landscapes and environments where they occur within the framework of an ecological land classification. Discussion on use and management of the soils is included. The soil units are rated for various uses including forestry, wildlife, agriculture, recreation, and selected engineering uses.
