Description

Designated industrial zones in Alberta are areas targeted for strategic investment and development of clustered industrial development and economic diversification. Alberta Environment and Parks and the Alberta Energy Regulator have developed this directive as a tool to more efficiently and effectively regulate the industries within the Industrial Heartland Designated Industrial Zone to help achieve consistency across the zone and environmental outcomes. The directive focuses on aligning standard conditions under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act for all facilities in the zone and clarifies requirements for new proponents intending to locate in the zone.

The directive provides a framework for the use of Crown Land Reservations to serve as a tool for public land management. The purpose of this policy is to establish how government is required to administer and responsibly use Crown land reservations under the Public Lands Act. The Land Use Reservation Program is a systematic approach to land management that makes use of reservations to identify and manage multiple intents and objectives for a parcel of public land. The system enables multiple regulators to manage public land for intended outcomes. This policy directive re-affirms and updates the use of reservations and the supporting program as a key land management tool for managing multiple interests that often times compete for access to, and use of Alberta's finite public land base.
