Description

In June 2010, the Government of Alberta officially declared grizzly bears a threatened species under Alberta's Wildlife Act. The management of grizzly bears is currently guided by the Alberta Grizzly Bear Recovery Plan, which recommends several strategies to ensure the long-term viability of grizzly bears in the province. This report summarizes the grizzly bear conservation and management activities conducted in 2013 and describes the progress the Government of Alberta has made in implementing the recovery plan.

Description

In Alberta, the black-throated green warbler has been designated a Species of Special Concern, and the bay-breasted warbler and Cape May warbler have been recommended for Species of Special Concern status due to perceived population declines and projected future habitat loss. All three species are neotropical migrants that breed in the Canadian boreal forest. This plan provides background information on the warblers and outlines a set of objectives and management actions to help meet the goal of maintaining breeding populations of all three species throughout their historical range in Alberta. Conservation management plans are developed for Species of Special Concern in Alberta, to provide guidance for land and resource management decisions that affect the species and their habitat. They are intended to be a resource tool for provincial and regional fish and wildlife, land and resource management staff.
