Alberta Crime Prevention Week is a time to promote community safety through crime prevention. Crime prevention consists of proactive, non-punitive measures which have the goal of addressing and/or removing factors which contribute to crime. All Albertans have a role to play in making Alberta an even safer place in which to live, work and raise families. This guide is intended to be a tool to help in the planning of community Crime Prevention Week events. It includes a step-by-step event planning guide, ideas for different types of events, tips on dealing with the media, and useful crime prevention resources.

The Safe Communities Innovation Fund, announced in November 2008, was a three-year grant initiative aimed at increasing community and police partnerships, enhancing community capacity to carry out effective crime prevention initiatives, and implementing innovative projects built on evidence-based and promising practices that focus on the needs of high-risk groups. The executive summaries included in this publication report on the results of over 80 projects funded by this initiative.
