Description

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code places an obligation on employers to have a tending worker physically located outside a confined space, at or near the entrance, who is not to leave the area until all workers have left the confined space or another tending worker is in place. Confined Space Remote Monitoring System (CSRMS) technology is an engineered system that allows workers inside a confined space to be monitored remotely; meaning a tending worker does not have to be physically located at or near the entrance to a confined space. This allowance is issued for subsections 56(3) and 56(5) of the OHS Code, permitting work sites to use CSRMS technology. A work site will have the flexibility to either follow the original rule in the OHS Code or follow this allowance.
