Presents the Government of Alberta's resource management policy for the public lands and resources within the region, which covers an area of approximately 90,000 square kilometres of mainly forest-covered mountains and foothills on the eastern slopes of Alberta's Rocky mountains. It is intended to be a guide to resource managers, industry and publics having responsibilities or interests in the area rather than a regulatory mechanism. Resource potentials and opportunities for development are identified with a view to assisting in the economic progress of Alberta.

The submission of a caribou protection plan to ESRD is a pre-requisite for exploration and construction activities within zones identified on the ESRD caribou landuse referral map and excluded from the scope of the Enhanced Approval Process. the CPP will include all new exploration and construction activities planned for the winter season. If exploration and construction activities are planned for the summer season they may be included in the same CPP, or submitted as a separate CPP prior to the application and approval of summertime exploration and construction activities.

The trail plan aligns with Alberta’s Plan for Parks, 2009-2019, which is a 10-year blueprint for guiding management of Alberta’s parks system to ensure sustainability of Alberta’s landscapes, while enhancing recreational opportunities.

These guidelines are intended to be the operational document in support of the Incremental Ethane Extraction Regulation approved July 2007 and the amendment to remove the program cap in September 2009. Guidelines were amended again in 2011 to extend the program to 2016 and to make revisions based on industry feedback gathered in fall, 2010, especially with regard to supply from off-gas projects. These guidelines are applicable to all existing approved projects.
