The purpose of this directive is to facilitate sustainable economic conditions for timber harvest in Alberta, to create a fair system of timber dues for all timber operators in Alberta, and to maintain a timber dues rate system that accurately reflects the economic value of timber and the final selling price of the manufactured product.

The purpose of this directive is to facilitate good forest management for timber harvest in Alberta by encouraging the utilization of high cost or low value timber, and to develop a timber dues rate system that accurately reflects the economic value of timber and the final selling price of the manufactured saw timber product.

Description

Forest company forest management plans (FMPs) detail when, where and how timber on Alberta Crown land will be managed in order to balance social, economic and environmental needs based on input from the public, Indigenous peoples and interest groups. The forest management planning area under consideration is FMA 8900026. The FMP includes the FMA and non-FMA portions of Forest Management Unit W14, collectively known as the Defined Forest Area (DFA). The DFA is located within the Upper Athabasca and Upper Peace Land-Use Framework planning regions in west central Alberta; it falls within the Subalpine, Upper Foothills, Lower Foothills and Central Mixedwood Natural Subregions.
