The Bighorn Dam is located west of Nordegg in Clearwater County, downstream of Abraham Lake and is managed by TransAlta. The leased lands around the dam are popular for recreation and increased random camping and OHV use has raised dam and public safety concerns. The Government of Alberta is implementing recreation management efforts and funding investments to conserve and protect the area and public safety.

The parks share borders with the Waterton Biosphere Reserve to the east, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park to the south, the Crowsnest Pass to the north and the Flathead river valley of British Columbia to the west. The lands in the Castle region form part of the extraordinary Crown of the Continent ecosystem. This guide is for the 2018 summer season only.
