Description

The Flood Mountain Site (FlQs-35) was identified in 2016 during an Historic Resources Impact Assessment (HRIA) of a proposed forestry cut block. A projectile point was recovered with typological similarities to Early Prehistoric Period points referred to as “stubbies”. Buried in situ sites of this period are quite rare and consequently the Flood Mountain Research Project was proposed as a follow-up investigation of the site in 2017. This paper discusses the results of the research program as well as the palaeoenvironmental constraints during the Early Prehistoric Period in Alberta that would have influenced exploitation of the postglacial landscape. FlQs-35 reflects a short-term campsite occupied by people who exploited the highly dynamic postglacial environment of Alberta’s uplands during the Early Holocene.

Results from aerial ungulate surveys conducted on February 5-7 and 9-10, 2020 in all known bighorn sheep winter ranges in wildlife management units 328, 414, 418, 420, 422, 426, 428, 429, 430, 432, 434, 734 (Ghost Wilderness Area) and 738 (White Goat). This report summarizes the results of the 2020 winter survey on provincial lands. Details on the Banff Park survey are reported separately.

The Lower Athabasca Regional Plan came into effect in September 2012, and was the first regional plan established under Alberta's Land Use Framework. The progress reports offer information regarding the work accomplished or the barriers encountered in implementing the the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan and highlight the status of all the strategic commitments made in the plan. The reports meet the legislative requirements described in the Alberta Land Stewardship Act and the regulatory requirements embedded in the plan. They also fulfill a public commitment to regularly monitor and answer the question "was progress made toward achieving desired regional objectives expressed within the approved regional plans?"
