This annual dataset provides planned fish stocking information on waterbodies within Alberta during the spring and fall stocking seasons. Please note that fish species, number stocked, and dates may change without notice. Actual fish stocking numbers are reported in the Fish Stocking Report, which is updated weekly or biweekly during spring and fall stocking seasons (see Related tab).

Description

The Culture Point dataset is comprised of all the points that represent Hamlets, Localities and Townsites in Alberta. The formation of a Hamlet can occur if there are 5 or more buildings used as dwellings with a majority of which are on parcels of land smaller than 1850 square metres, has a generally accepted boundary and name and contains parcels of land that are used for non-residential purposes. Hamlet is an unincorporated community that can be designated by the council of Municipal District or Specialized Municipality within their boundaries, or by the Minister of Municipal Affairs within the boundaries of an Improvement District. Locality is an unincorporated place or an area with scattered population. Townsite is a federally administered village. The boundaries of rural classification of Locality and Townsite are often undefined.

Description

The Provincial Parks Act provides for designation of lands to be managed under the Act that are not established as parks/protected areas. These lands are 'declared' under the Provincial Parks (Section 7 Declaration) Regulation, and are legally described in Schedules to the Regulation. Specific provisions of the Act and regulations may be applied to each land parcel declared under section 7 to provide for management of the lands. Section 7 is used to address interim management of lands that have been acquired for park/protected area purposes but are not yet designated, or where activities not permitted in a park/protected area are being managed until such time as the activity is completed and the lands can be designated as a park/protected area. The applicable Ministerial Order is referenced in the 'NOTES' field.

Hunting and fishing are an important part of Alberta's social, cultural and economic heritage. Continued participation in these activities help sustain respect and appreciation for Alberta's natural habitats. Hunters and anglers provide important input and support to fish and wildlife management activities. Hunting and fishing contribute to the economy. The Hunting for Tomorrow Foundation's report, “The Economic Benefits of Hunting and Fishing Activities in Alberta in 2008”, estimated that $800 million was spent by hunters, anglers and related conservation organizations in 2008.
