Significant historic places are legally protected through designation. Owners are supported through grant funding and conservation advice. The listing of historic resources identifies lands that contain or are believed to contain historic resources, including primarily archaeological and palaeontological sites, Indigenous traditional use sites of a historic resource nature, and historic structures. Issued twice a year, it provides industry and other developers with advance notification of possible historic resource concerns. Alberta Township System coordinates are provided for each historic resource area.
