The Lepidoptera of the area was studied on 13 different days (30 trap nights) from June 27 to August 15 in the years 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. All collected specimens were databased and information on most is available on the Virtual Museum website of the University of Alberta Strickland Museum (http://www.entomology.ualberta.ca/). No collections were made in the spring or fall and thus many species remain to be documented.

Description

The Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area Management Plan provides a long-term vision and day-to-day guidance for stewardship of this protected area. The plan outlines the type and extent of outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities, facilities and services including the delivery of heritage appreciation programs that assist Albertans and visitors to understand and appreciate our natural heritage while ensuring its ongoing preservation. The plan was prepared with extensive public input and will be reviewed and revised periodically. The Minister responsible for parks and protected areas has authorized the implementation of the management plan and retains the authority to amend or interpret its provisions.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a floristic and plant community survey in order to document the occurrence and location of rare or otherwise significant plant species and communities of the Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area uplands. Site conditions are described for significant plant species and communities. The information presented in this report and the accompanying map are meant to assist managers to protect and enhance the biodiversity of the Blackfoot.

Description

The purpose of this study was to conduct floristic surveys, identify and document the location of rare vascular and non-vascular native plants, and describe the site conditions where observed rare plants occur as information for the management of the natural resources of the Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area; and to produce a report and a floristic site survey and rare native plant location map for selected, naturally vegetated areas of the Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. The seven fenced pastures inside the Recreation Area were excluded from consideration.
