Description

The Turner Valley gas plant site, used for many decades for petroleum production and refining, was decommissioned after 1985 and was designated as a historic site in 1995. A reclamation program was implemented for the redevelopment of the site. As part of the reclamation program, a groundwater containment and treatment system was constructed to contain and treat impacted groundwater. The purpose of the 2008 groundwater monitoring program was to collect groundwater data in order to assess the performance of the remediation system.

The Turner Valley gas plant site, used for many decades for petroleum production and refining, was decommissioned after 1985 and was designated as a historic site in 1995. A reclamation program was implemented for the redevelopment of the site. Presents the results of groundwater monitoring at the historic Turner Valley gas plant. The objective of this program was to improve the understanding of groundwater flow at the site and delineate the distribution of contaminants of concern along the boundaries of the site. The Turner Valley gas plant, western Canada’s first natural gas processing and refining facility and the site of Alberta’s first major oil and gas discovery, is a provincial historic resource and a national historic site.

Description

The Turner Valley gas plant site, used for many decades for petroleum production and refining, was decommissioned after 1985 and was designated as a historic site in 1995. A reclamation program was implemented for the redevelopment of the site. In July 2008, iron oxide seeps were observed at the site. This series of documents details the response and investigation into the source of these seeps.

Description

The Turner Valley gas plant site, used for many decades for petroleum production and refining, was decommissioned after 1985 and was designated as a historic site in 1995. The objectives of the groundwater monitoring program were to: verify that known contaminants on site are not reaching the Sheep River; establish seasonal variation in flow and quality in the surface and groundwater regimes; and to provide information to be used in restoring and reclaiming the historic site in an environmentally effective way.

Description

The Turner Valley gas plant site, used for many decades for petroleum production and refining, was decommissioned after 1985 and was designated as a historic site in 1995. A reclamation program was implemented for the redevelopment of the site. As part of the reclamation program, a contract was designed to address three issues identified on the gas plant land: interior mercury vapors, exterior mercury concentrations in soil, and risks to health and the environment by aging underground storage tanks present throughout the site.
