Description

Under the Historical Resources Act, Alberta Arts, Culture and Status of Women regulates development activities that could adversely affect significant historic resources in the province. Indigenous traditional use sites are one of the types of historic resources that the ministry records and protects through its regulatory operations. This information bulletin explains how the ministry works with Indigenous communities to gather information on traditional use sites, and how these sites are integrated into the Listing of Historic Resources in such a way as to protect them during proposed developments while also protecting the confidential nature of the sites.

Under The Government of Alberta’s Policy on Consultation with First Nations on Land and Resource Management, 2013 Alberta has created the Aboriginal Consultation Office (ACO). The ACO oversees Alberta’s role in consultation. Requirements for consultation under the Historical Resources Act (HRA) will still be managed by Alberta Culture and Status of Women. Proponents and agents may need to contact Alberta Culture and Status of Women as part of the approval processes required by the Government of Alberta prior to the onset of development activities. Alberta Culture and Status of Women is the regulatory authority for traditional use sites that are considered historic resources under the HRA.

Sets out the code of conduct to be followed by members of a regional plan review panel. Under the Land Stewardship Act, a a person who is directly and adversely affected by a regional plan or an amendment to a regional plan may request a review of the regional plan or amendment. When a request is received, a panel is established to conduct a review and report the results to the Stewardship Minister.
