Operating guidelines for sharing resources to help fight wildfires in a wildland urban interface (WUI) outside the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. The guidelines provide response procedures for municipal firefighters, private contractors and Government of Alberta employees. They also set reimbursement process for personnel, apparatus, and specialty equipment and establish minimum standards for apparatus, training, and experience of personnel pre-deployment.

While the role of the recreation sector in emergencies is often focused primarily on providing a staging area for first responders or shelter to people who have been displaced, there is also strong evidence that providing recreation services to those impacted by the emergency has significant benefits. The information, tools, and resources in this guide can be tailored to suit the local context and customized to fit with organizational needs and capacity. The guide includes a workbook which provides example templates for building components of a recreation services emergency plan.

This user guide provides an overview of what leading indicators are, and how and why they might be applied to strengthen your organization’s health and safety culture and performance. Some leading indicators may be more effective than others, depending on an organization’s current level of OHS performance. For that reason, the user guide considers three categories of OHS performance: those that are focused on maintaining compliance with Alberta legislation, those looking for improvement (beyond compliance), and those in pursuit of continuous learning for the highest levels of performance. A tool is provided to help establish which category best describes your organization’s current OHS performance level, as well as sample leading indicators for each performance category — for your consideration.
