This plan addresses the overall management of 52 Provincial Recreation Areas and Bragg Creek Provincial Park, all located in the Kananaskis Region and west of the City of Calgary. Background information on each of the 52 PRAs and Bragg Creek Provincial Park is presented, as well as proposed management intent statements, management objectives, and management strategies. The plan will be used by Alberta Parks as well as staff of other government agencies, First Nations, stakeholders and the general public and is meant to form the foundation for more specific management strategies or annual operating plans and budgets within these parks. Management plans are normally reviewed and updated ten years after approval.

As a framework for overall planning, the Management Plan provides background and descriptive information as well as proposed management objectives and strategies. It also serves to inspire the ethic in which the Eagle Point – Blue Rapids Park System was created: innovative ideas, environmental stewardship, recreation management and community collaboration. The Management Plan will be used primarily by: the Government of Alberta; the Eagle Point - Blue Rapids Parks Council; various stakeholders such as volunteers, leaseholders, and special interest groups; and the general public.

These parks enhance and sustain our quality of life, protect biodiversity, and promote health and wellness through outdoor recreation. In order to best manage Alberta’s parks, we must have accurate information about them, the features they protect, the opportunities they provide, and the activities they support. A considerable amount of scientific work is conducted in parks. Establishing a Science Strategy is a priority action under Alberta’s Plan for Parks . It is intended to facilitate natural and social science research and inform decision-making. It affirms the valuable role that science plays in understanding and managing parks. This document provides a framework for the overall management of OH Ranch Heritage Rangeland for a ten-year period commencing on the approval date of this plan. This management plan and the direction it contains applies to the public land within OH Ranch Heritage Rangeland. This document has been developed in coordination and consultation with all of the partners involved in OH Ranch Heritage Rangeland management. Management direction specific to the private land under conservation easement is contained in the approved conservation easement agreements registered on the title of those lands. The management direction for the private land under conservation easement agreements was developed to be complimentary and consistent with the management direction of this management plan.
