Description

The Well-being and Resiliency Framework provides rationale for and describes the ways of working to promote well-being and resiliency in Alberta. It defines the key elements of the prevention continuum of services, identifies desired outcomes, supports decision-making on funding and service delivery and promotes an understanding of how trauma impacts development. The framework captures emerging research and leading practices and reflects the cultural diversity of Alberta. It also incorporates Indigenous perspectives on well-being and resiliency. The framework offers an interconnected perspective by sharing insights about how well-being and resiliency are promoted from both western and Indigenous worldviews.

Description

The miyo resource discusses foundational beliefs and approaches of Indigenous peoples to promote well-being and resiliency and outlines an evaluative process that honours an Indigenous worldview. This resource supports provincial implementation of the Well-Being and Resiliency Framework by outlining an evaluative framework that recognizes culturally-based practice and assesses program effectiveness and the achievement of outcomes in a meaningful way. The miyo resource was developed recognizing that western-based evaluation practices are generally not effective when working with Indigenous communities. It includes a model for service delivery and outcome and performance measurement that accurately and culturally assesses the impact and value of culturally designed services provided by and for Indigenous client populations.

The Indigenous Cultural Understanding Framework is a development and delivery plan for training to ensure Children's Services staff have the knowledge, skills and abilities to deliver culturally appropriate support, services and programs to Indigenous children, youth, families and communities. The framework supports government's response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples calling for more education to public servants on Indigenous history, treaties and residential schools.

It contains the headwaters of the Oldman River, supports biodiversity values, requires the management of wildlife risk and provides traditional First Nations land uses. The South Saskatchewan Regional Plan establishes a long-term vision for the South Saskatchewan Region and aligns provincial policies at the regional level to balance Alberta's economic, environmental and social goals. The regional plan also includes strategies for responsible energy development, sustainable farming and ranching, recreation, forest management, and nature-based tourism. It has been established under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, and the Land Use Framework. This version of the SSRP was amended in May 2018, and came into effect on May 31, 2018.
