Description

In January 2014, the Minister of Human Services Minister announced a five-point plan for improving the child intervention system and an Implementation Oversight Committee (IOC) was appointed to oversee this work. Part of the IOC’s mandate was to prioritize responses to previous recommendations for improving the system, which came from a variety of sources, including the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate; the Alberta Child Intervention Review Panel; fatality inquiries; and the Child and Family Services Council for Quality Assurance. This report presents an independent assessment of the implementation status of some 67 previous recommendations, as identified by the IOC.

The inquiry found that the cause of death was a stab wound to the abdomen and the manner of death was homicide. MC was in provincial government care at the time of his death. The report included two recommendations for the ministry. The ministry accepts both recommendations.

Dependency ratio (age dependency ratio) is the ratio of persons in the "dependent" ages (generally under age 15 and over age 64) to those in the "economically productive" ages (15 - 64 years) in a population.
