Description

This Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) dataset describes the monthly Income Support caseload in Alberta, including two client groups: those Expected to Work (ETW) and those who have Barriers to Full Employment (BFE). Income Support provides financial benefits to individuals and families who do not have the resources to meet their basic needs, like food, clothing, and shelter. The caseload is defined as the number of households categorized as ETW or BFE during a specific reporting period. Most commonly, this is reported as the average volume for a specific period (e.g., annually).   The composition of the caseload is made up of single individuals, lone-parent families, couples with children and couples without children. Getting Started answers the questions prospective operators may have when applying for a licence to provide continuing care services. It describes how to apply for a licence and what is expected of licensed operators. It also describes what is involved in the inspection and monitoring of accommodations and what to expect when a provider is in contravention with Alberta Health and enforcement is required. We encourage prospective operators to schedule a pre-consultation meeting with the Continuing Care Licensing Office to discuss their plans before starting this application process

The Continuing Care Act regulates the full spectrum of continuing care services and settings in Alberta, including continuing care homes, supportive living accommodations, and home and community care. The Act establishes authority and oversight for licensing, accommodations, and the delivery of publicly funded health care in the continuing care system. It includes requirements for licensing, compliance and enforcement actions, and appeals. The Act repeals the Nursing Homes Act, Supportive Living Accommodation Licensing Act, Long Term Care Information Act, and Resident and Family Councils Act.
