Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed St. Mary Irrigation District Chin Reservoir Expansion Project. Chin Reservoir is an off-stream storage reservoir that is located roughly in the middle of St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) irrigation network, approximately 30 kilometers (km) east of Lethbridge and 15 km south of Taber. The Chin Reservoir Expansion Project (the Project) involves the construction of a new dam which would result in a larger reservoir. The new dam would be approximately 40 meters (m) in height and is expected to inundate (flood) approximately 650 hectares (ha) of privately held land within Chin Coulee. The Phase 3 Forest Inventory Program commenced in 1970 and the initial data collection was completed in 1984 as per a 1966 federal-provincial task force recommendation that a provincial forest inventory should be completed before private company timber harvest quotas came up for renewal in 1986. The inventory was initiated by the Alberta Forestry, Lands and Wildlife Department and was intended to facilitate future forest management plans and the revision of annual allowable cuts. The extent of the Phase 3 Forest Inventory reflects the extent of Alberta's Green Area and fringe areas at that time minus three Forest Management Units in the north (A13, F10 and F20), the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range (L9), the Federal Indian Reserves and the Wilderness Areas. Under the Phase 3 Forest Inventory Program, the cover types were interpreted from aerial photography (mainly 1:15 000 black and white) to generate a hardcopy map base. Stone production debris (debitage) is the most common artifact type found at archaeological sites in North America. A significant time investment is required to catalogue debitage from large assemblages. Conventional thought holds that, because lithic tool manufacture is reductive, the attributes of flake size and cortex amount will decrease throughout production while dorsal flake scars increase. Dorsal scar count is an attribute commonly used to infer trends in an assemblage; however, the statistical significance of dorsal scars as a measure of the stage of lithic tool production has not been addressed adequately. Cortex amount is also used to deduce lithic reduction stages; however, the author argues that this may not represent behavioral patterns as meaningfully as platform morphology.

This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. Riparian areas consist of the lands adjacent to streams, rivers, wetlands and lakes that are strongly influenced by the presence of water. They are often distinct from the surrounding landscape as the vegetation growth is very lush. These areas form a transition between dry land and open water and are characterized by the presence of hydrophilic vegetation and specific soil types. Riparian areas are usually very productive in terms of biomass and form critical wildlife habitat. Additionally, these areas often have standing water and are subjected to periodic flooding when high water levels fill the stream channel to the top of the bank. The term 'riparian' is derived from the Latin word for river bank. Riparian areas provide valuable food, shelter and travel corridors as well...

In most cases, the sites represent conditions upstream and downstream of areas of significant human activity. The RWQI has been reported as a performance measure in the Ministry of Environment and Parks "Annual Report" since 1996.

Inventory research, starting in 1999 and continuing through 2007, has been carried out on the moths of eleven major study areas in south‐central Alberta. With the exception of a semi‐urban site in Erskine, all sites were in areas where the vegetation had been relatively undisturbed. Realizing that about 95% of the Aspen Parkland has been disturbed by agriculture or other activities, and some of the remainder will soon be disturbed, the purpose of the research was to document the native moth biodiversity while there was still time to do so.
