This cartographic quality 1:750 000 scale colour map covers the provincial extent of Alberta and also displays the Alberta Township System (ATS), major hydrographic features, municipalities, major roads, railways and select geoadministrative features (parks, reserves, etc.). In addition to the primary provincial base map, this series includes various themes that overlay the primary base map. Each individual map sheet is provided in Adobe .pdf format. This series is generally updated on an annual basis. The Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) Watersheds of Alberta represents a collection of five nested hierarchically structured drainage basin feature classes that have been created using the Hydrologic Unit Code system of classification developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) with accommodation to reflect the pre-existing Canadian classification system. Description

This 5 class 6 m resolution land cover was created for the NSWA and BRWA in 2020-2021 using SPOT6/7 imagery from 2017 and 2018 provided by the Government of Alberta in order to assess riparian intactness for 25,272 km of shoreline in Alberta. The land cover was developed from 44 separate supervised random forest classifications of 41 different SPOT6 6m imagery tiles from 2017/2018 and was then clipped to a 50 m buffer around waterbodies of interest. The full classification is composed of 41 individual polygon files, each of which corresponds to the original SPOT tile that the classification was performed on. Details on the individual SPOT tiles is available in the accompanying report. Two data products are available from this project: Wall to Wall Land Cover (available in TIFF and FGDB formats) and Shoreline Buffer (available in TIFF format). Please see the Distribution Information to obtain the data products.

Description

This dataset shows length weighted connectivity values summarized by hydrologic unit code (HUC) for a provincial stream connectivity indicator that assesses connectivity for aquatic organisms in stream networks. The stream connectivity indicator supports evaluation and reporting on indicator condition over time and provides information to support management of watercourse crossings. The stream connectivity indicator produces an estimate of the average connectivity in a stream network, considering the movement requirements of local species and the locations of watercourse crossings. The indicator is calculated and summarized using hydrologic unit codes (HUCs). Indicator values are calculated at a HUC 6 scale, and summarized for HUC 8 watersheds at four timesteps: 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPAC) boundaries contained in this dataset are an approximate representation of the WPAC planning areas in Alberta. The actual boundary used by individual WPACs may differ from what is contained in this data.These boundaries were derived from the Drainage Basins of Alberta and contain all currently designated WPACs and one yet to be established for the combined Peace and Slave River basins. This data is available to Government of Alberta staff via Layer Manager. For other access to the data, please contact the distributor.

This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. The Base Watersheds data was created by re-working and post-processing the digital elevation data from the Alberta Provincial Digital Elevation Model, the digital hydrography data from the Base Stream and Flow Representation Lines, the Base Waterbody Polygons and the Base Hydrography Point Events and the digital boundaries of the ATS Version 4.1 Alberta Provincial Boundary. The digital elevation data was hydrologically corrected using simplified versions of the Base Stream and Flow Representation Lines and the Base Waterbody Polygons. The digital watersheds were created using the hydrologically corrected filled Alberta Provincial Digital Elevation Model data as a base and the simplified versions of the Base Stream and Flow Representation Lines and the Base Waterbody Polygons as...
