Description

In 2003, the governor of the state of Montana sent a letter to the american Section of the IJC requesting that it review the 1921 Order respecting the measurement and apportionment of the St. Mary and Milk Rivers. In January 2004, the Governor of the State of Montana, at the request of the IJC, provided to the Commission a letter and attachment setting out the reasons for Montana's request. Montana's letter essentially identifies four reasons for requesting a review of the 1921 Order.

Description

In 1921, the IJC issued an Order establishing a set of rules under which the measurement and apportionment of water from the St. Mary and Milk Rivers would be made by an Accredited Officer from each country. Based upon the certainty provided by the 1921 Order, Alberta has made significant investments to store, convey and deliver water for farms, industry and power generation. This includes a system of diversion canals, storage reservoirs and irrigation canals.
