Under the Post-Secondary Learning Act, the boards of all public post-secondary institutions and independent academic institutions must enter into an investment management agreement with the Minister of Advanced Education. These agreements must include the mandate of the institution, performance metrics for the institution, and anything else determined by the Minister. The agreements are the primary accountability instrument of a performance-based funding model for Alberta's post-secondary system and incentivize institutions to work collectively to achieve the goals of Alberta 2030. This record contains all signed investment management agreements for the period 2022-2025.

Investment Management Agreements are contracts between publicly-funded post-secondary institutions and the Minister of Advanced Education. Investment Management Agreements are contracts between publicly-funded post-secondary institutions and the Minister of Advanced Education. The agreements are the primary accountability instrument of a performance-based funding model, in that they incentivize institutions to work collectively to achieve the goals of Alberta 2030. Description

This report is produced annually by the Research Capacity Planning branch of Alberta Advanced Education and Technology. Data derived from the report are compiled and used as a performance measure in Measuring Up, a component of the Government of Alberta's Annual Report, and the Business Plan and Annual Report for the Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology (AET). The data collection process has been adjusted in order to provide and analyze data that are consistent with the overall sponsored research revenue totals reported by the institutions to the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO). These institutions include Athabasca University, and the Universities of Alberta, Calgary and Lethbridge. Previous reports described a ten year span of historical data, but given requirements associated with restating the data in accordance with the new process, this report details a five year span of data.
