Description

The Investing in a Diversified Alberta Economy Act and the Alberta Corporate Tax Act were amended effective April 16, 2023, to implement the agri-processing investment tax credit (APITC) program. This new program offers a 12 per cent non-refundable tax credit based on eligible capital expenditures to corporations investing $10 million or more to build or expand agri-processing facilities in Alberta.

Effective the beginning of day on April 1, 2024, Alberta’s fuel tax rate is increasing from $0.09 per litre to $0.13 per litre. The rate increase applies to clear gasoline and diesel, ethanol, ethanol blended gasoline, biodiesel, blended diesel, methanol and condensate used to generate power in an internal combustion or turbine engine. The effective rate of fuel tax applicable to marked gasoline and diesel, after applying the tax-exempt consumer exemption, will be $0.04 per litre.

Further to the extension of the fuel tax relief explained in Special Notice Vol. 1 No. 47, the Government of Alberta will resume collecting fuel tax effective the beginning of day on January 1, 2024 at the rate of $0.09 per litre on clear gasoline and diesel, ethanol, ethanol blended gasoline, biodiesel, blended diesel, methanol and condensate used to generate power in an internal combustion or turbine engine. The fuel tax rate applicable to marked gasoline and diesel remains at nil.
