This guide outlines the Practice Review Committee process used in dealing with applications (section 3) or referrals (section 38.1) under the Agricultural Operation Practices Act to the Agriculture and Irrigation Minister to consider whether a nuisance disturbance (odour, noise, dust, smoke, etc.) from an agriculture operation results from a generally accepted agricultural practice.

Description

Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed St. Mary Irrigation District Chin Reservoir Expansion Project. Chin Reservoir is an off-stream storage reservoir that is located roughly in the middle of St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) irrigation network, approximately 30 kilometers (km) east of Lethbridge and 15 km south of Taber. The Chin Reservoir Expansion Project (the Project) involves the construction of a new dam which would result in a larger reservoir. The new dam would be approximately 40 meters (m) in height and is expected to inundate (flood) approximately 650 hectares (ha) of privately held land within Chin Coulee. (ASC is a wholly owned subsidiary of United Industrial Services Ltd. (UIS).) ASC is authorized to explore the silica sand under Metallic and Industrial Minerals Permit No. 9393080332; ASC is authorized to extract the silica sand under Metallic and Industrial Mineral Lease No. 9496110001; and to surface develop, on Crown land, the sand pits and the processing plant required under Mineral Surface Lease No. MSL 941817. The lease area comprises approximately 1300 hectares (3200 acres), 300 ha (740 acres) on the west side and approximately 1010 ha (2500 acres) on the east side of the Peace River.
