Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed St. Mary Irrigation District Chin Reservoir Expansion Project. Chin Reservoir is an off-stream storage reservoir that is located roughly in the middle of St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) irrigation network, approximately 30 kilometers (km) east of Lethbridge and 15 km south of Taber. The Chin Reservoir Expansion Project (the Project) involves the construction of a new dam which would result in a larger reservoir. The new dam would be approximately 40 meters (m) in height and is expected to inundate (flood) approximately 650 hectares (ha) of privately held land within Chin Coulee. Albertans were invited to provide input on issues relating to energy development in urban areas through an online forum. Fact sheets and educational information on safety standards and environmental regulations are available and a series of questions will help gather ideas and opinions on this important topic. Discussion sessions were held in Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Calgary, and Lethbridge between June 16 - 24, 2014 with stakeholders and the ministries of Energy, Health, Municipal Affairs and the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Property Rights Advocate. The same information was also available to online participants through an online feedback form that closed on July 15th, 2014.

Water conservation objectives set out the volume and quality of water to remain in rivers for the protection of a natural water body and its aquatic environment. They are flow targets under the first-in-time, first-in-right priority water allocation system and apply to all new licences and existing licences with a retrofit provision.
