Description

Provides an overview and objectives of the Research Capacity Program, outlines eligibility requirements and the submission process for funding, and explains the accountability and reporting requirements for successful funding applicants. The program is designed to support the acquisition of small equipment and large research infrastructure to build research capacity in Alberta’s post-secondary institutions and attract, retain, and develop researchers undertaking transformative and applied research programs.

The data identifies: the ministry which provided the grant; the grant recipient; the payment amount; the program under which the grant was made; and whether the grant was funded by the Lottery Fund.

This resource includes a summary, highlights and background information of a study undertaken to provide information on long-term planning and opportunity for handling water within the Designated Industrial Zone in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, with the aim of developing a regionalized hybrid water supply and distribution model to optimize the use of new and existing water supply infrastructure within the area. The study, prepared by Stantec Consulting under contract to Alberta Environment and Parks, also considered options for wastewater management and explored management approaches through the use of a jurisdictional review. The full Stantec report is included as an attachment to the publication.

Designated industrial zones in Alberta are areas targeted for strategic investment and development of clustered industrial development and economic diversification. Management goals for designated industrial zones include regulatory streamlining, cluster infrastructure development, and the management of cumulative effects to achieve environmental outcomes. This document sets out criteria the Province considered in establishing the Industrial Heartland Designated Industrial Zone. These criteria are intended to support municipalities when considering planning for clustered heavy industrial developments of similar scope and size.

The NRN product is distributed in the form of thirteen provincial or territorial datasets and consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and three punctual entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Toll Point) with which is associated a series of descriptive attributes such as, among others: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number Of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, Exit Number. The development of the NRN was realized by means of individual meetings and national workshops with interested data providers from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments. In 2005, the NRN edition 2.0 was alternately adopted by members from the Inter-Agency Committee on Geomatics (IACG) and the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). The NRN content largely conforms to the ISO 14825 from ISO/TC 204.

Managed by Alberta Enterprise and Advanced Education (EAE), the Research Capacity Program (RCP) has been an active participant in the funding of research infrastructure at Alberta universities since 2000. In that time, the program has significantly impacted the larger research community. By promoting research quality, fostering innovation, and supporting strategic initiatives, the RCP's activities are benefiting Alberta. Key research initiatives supported by the program have gained national and international recognition and contributed to Alberta through training a highly qualified workforce, providing new knowledge that leads to new company development and the development of treatments and diagnoses for improved health outcomes.

Description

The Research Capacity Program (RCP) is a competitive funding program designed to support the acquisition of small equipment and large research infrastructure to build capacity in Campus Alberta institutions and support multidisciplinary teams of researchers conducting excellent research and innovation initiatives. The RCP is aligned with Alberta's research and innovation system and investments are made in the context of Government of Alberta (GoA) research and innovation priorities and Institutional Research Plan (IRP) priorities. The RCP uses a cost-shared funding approach to provide up to 40% of the total eligible project costs for successful proposals, enabling projects to leverage support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and other sources. To facilitate this cost-shared approach, the RCP coordinates its competition streams and competitive cycles with the CFI, as shown in the table below.
