Environmental assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed MEG Energy Corp. May River Project. The project would target bitumen resources in the McMurray Formation using steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology. The project would be developed over three phases with a total planned capacity of about 26 000 m3 per day (164,000 bbl/d). The project would consist of three central processing facilities, natural-gas-fired cogeneration at Phases 1 and 3, associated field facilities, and related infrastructure. The proposal is for steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology for the recovery of bitumen, a bitumen processing facility with a capacity of 45,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), a centralized steam generation plant, as well as associated infrastructure. The project location is about 85 km northeast of Lac La Biche. The EIA was deemed complete in 2009. For more information on the environmental assessment process visit ea.alberta.ca.
