Alberta Infrastructure adapted IRI as its performance measure for reporting pavement condition in 1998 after bench marking the primary highways network in 1996. The IRI is a simple and stable measure of road roughness. The reasons of simplicity and stability led Alberta to switch over to this measure from PQI, which is composed of three pavement condition parameters.
