Two critical questions often arise in forest management pertaining to the accuracy and suitability of any new forest inventory technique at the tree or stand level: how can we judge whether a new inventory technique is valid or of acceptable accuracy; and how can we compare if a new inventory technique agrees with or is better than an existing one. This technical document describes the procedures and the statistical methods that collectively provide the tools to address and answer these questions.

These sub-models were designed to work in concert with the GYPSY sub-models published in May 2009 (Huang et al, 2009). Growth and Yield Projection System (GYPSY) is a forest growth model composed of a number of sub-models or functions. GYPSY is used to forecast the growth and yield of stands of trees on a per hectare basis. The 2009 version has been updated to include modelling capability for multiple species in pure and mixed species stands. It also enables forest managers to predict future growth based on reforestation survey results.
