Description

Regional Collaborative Service Delivery (RCSD) is a new way to more effectively meet the learning needs of children and youth and support their well-being. The purpose of this approach is to ensure children and youth have aligned and co-ordinated access to supports and services they need to be successful in school and in their community. Regional Collaborative Service Delivery is a joint endeavour of Alberta Education, Alberta Health, Alberta Human Services and Alberta Health Services. It enables partners to work together on a regional basis to enhance the supports and services of identified children, youth, and their families within the context of their home, school and community.

Student Health (formerly known as the Student Health Initiative) is a joint endeavor of Education, Health and Wellness and Children''s Services. All partnerships include regional health authorities, child and family services authorities, school authorities and regional offices of the Alberta Mental Health Board. These partnerships are jointly accountable for the effective use of Student Health funding and for the outcomes for students with special health needs.

This framework is a compilation of feedback provided by Alberta Education staff and members of the External Working Group, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Advisory Committee, and K–12 Wellness External Advisory Committee; as well as discussion groups and online questionnaire results. These feedback groups include nominated teachers and administrators, and representatives from various government ministries, community stakeholders and health and education organizations.

Being physically active on a daily basis is crucial to the health and wellness of all Canadians, especially children. Based on Health Canada's recommendations, Alberta Education has developed a daily physical activity policy which states that school authorities shall ensure that all students in grades 1 to 9 are physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes daily through activities that are organized by the school. To help ensure that the policy requirements are met, Alberta Education has prepared this school handbook to help teachers and administrators select age-appropriate activities that can be done almost anytime and anywhere.
