The Foster Care Handbook is a guide to the most frequently asked questions about foster care and is not intended as a policy statement. It is an information resource on practical everyday issues, which adds to information provided through training and policy. This handbook is a manual for new, as well as experienced foster families. The sections provide an overview of foster care, highlighting the responsibilities of the foster family, gives advice on foster care support, explains policy, and provides information on other program areas. The various subsections give the foster family an opportunity to learn about their roles and how they work within the system to provide for children in care. The handbook is a joint effort between Alberta Children's Services and the Alberta Foster Parent Association (AFPA).
